Jo G.

An artist is working on a detailed chalk drawing of a classical sculpture on a blackboard, with a plaster sculpture of a face on a wooden shelf nearby.

My passion for art began when I took several years off from my career in accounting and studied Interior Architecture and Design at local University. After Interior Design school, I continued to pursue my passion in art, especially painting.  While on vacations from my accounting job, I often attended intensive oil painting workshops around the country and abroad.

Many years later, deeply inspired by Classical Renaissance Art, I retired from my career in accounting and spent a year studying classical drawing in Florence, Italy.  The techniques taught there were based on 19th century classical methods structured around the Renaissance movement and Classical Greek Antiquity.

Although I appreciate all kinds of art movements throughout art history, I am particularly connected to classical art because of my training. Classical art has never stopped and is timeless.

As I develop as an artist, I choose subjects that have timeless quality.  I look for pleasing forms, shapes, lines and angles — whether in landscapes, still life, or life models.

Whether my paintings are realistic, impressionists, or abstracts, the common thread that ties my subject matters together are the combinations of my love for travel, street photography, and shared memories.

My painting is a journey, continuously learning.
